Our fellowship began in 1901 when a group of local people had concern for mission work in the community. They rented two houses in nearby York Street where they sought to provide nurture in the Christian faith for themselves and their children.

They set their vision on a Mission Hall and acquired the land where our building stands today. After coming into contact with the growing Independent Methodist Connexion of churches in Oldham, they obtained a mortgage from the Connexion who also provided spiritual and legal support.

The Mission Hall opened in August 1908 and became the hub of social life in the community. In 1970  we became a church in full union with the Independent Methodist Connexion of Churches. It was by faith that over 10 years ago the leadership and congregation looked to extend and adapt these premises for the  purposes of God’s Kingdom in the 21stCentury. After ups and downs of plans and funding the extension and modernisation was commenced on Monday 26th July 2004.

Work began on the improvements to our building on Monday 26th July 2004 and on Sunday 24th July 2005 we dedicated the building and held our first service in the new worship area. Our extension provides us with a large foyer with ladies and disabled toilet facilities to one side and a small office on the other side. A glass partition leads through to our new purpose built worship area with the latest sound system and multimedia. Double doors from the foyer lead into our church hall where we have a large modern kitchen and a comfortable lounge area. The outside of the church has been landscaped with tubs, small trees and a variety of shrubs. The extension and modernisation is the culmination of many years of prayer and fundraising. These alterations can only enhance our existing work and we hope will provide more scope for the future. This is the start of a new path for us and we pray that God will lead us in the future.

Church Resources Pooled

January 1st 2005 saw the beginning of a covenant partnership between ourselves, the Independent Methodist Connexion of Churches and the Baptist Union of Great Britain

Over the next four years, faith issues and practical considerations will be worked out. In the meantime churches have the resources of both to assist them and a new network of inter-church activity. A recent visit by Baptist Union president, Rev. Dr. Kate Coleman only concreted this connection. Anyone who has interest in knowing more, or who has question on faith issues or personal concerns is invited to make contact, in confidence.
